Weekend Update: I'm back.

I had a crazy week.
Mostly working.
I decided to take a break from blogging.
I missed it.
So, I'm back.

A lot has happened in 2 weeks, so I'll spare you most of the details and just share the highlights.

We went out on the lake, and E experienced the bliss that is boating for the very first time. Although I'm not sure what he considered it to be. This is the expression he sported for the major part of the trip. He was rather scared to make any sudden movements in his life jacket, and smiling was out of the question. I believe he felt accomplished by carrying out the duties of the designated flag holder.

Our dear, dear friends and neighbors moved away to Texas. It was really hard to see them go. They were the "can I borrow an egg, we'd love to watch your dog, here's some baked goods from scratch for your birthday, let's stay up late and pretend we're in college again, and have our babies together." kind of friends. I've always been the kind of person with a philosophy that once you're a friend you're a friend for life and I would do anything for you. It's a hard way to live in a lot of ways. I've been devastated throughout my life by misinterpreted, lost, and just plain superficial friendships. If I had the opportunity to change the fact that my heartstrings become quickly and easily attached, in order to protect myself from past and future heartache, I don't believe I would opt to do so. It's who I am. I'd rather be warm than cold if you know what I mean. I'm certain that the friends I've referred to will be friends for life. There are just some friendships out there that can't be tarnished by distance, and they're the very best kind.

We're all very sad to see them leave.
E will especially miss little miss B.

Remember my summer bucket list? #5, check. Since eating with a 1 year old is nearly always a new experience at every sit down, and always a mess, we opted to pack up what I'm going to call an "after dinner delight picnic". It was one of my favorite nights of the summer yet. I a.d.o.r.e. spending time with just my boys, and if it's outside in our beautiful town, even better.
Our basket full of the kind of brownies that are so gooey they won't possibly cut into nice squares, and toddler friendly marshmallows.
More please...

And THIS is why I love where I live. We can have a picnic in the shade, followed by feeding the ducks and a little toe dipping in the lake.

Some days just make every other day...worth it.

What a beautiful place! It looks like you had a great picnic. It's so hard to see friends go, but it's so easy to keep in touch these days-I'm sure you'll remain close for many years to come!

I love it all. I have a friend who moved away several years ago, and if she moved back tomorrow, I'd be on her doorstep ready to go for one of our nighttime walks. Wish it were so. Wish it were so.
