Casual Blogger Conference+Red Velvet Cake+Swimming= Good Weekend

I had a wonderful weekend complete with outdoor badminton, bottomless steak fries, cake and ice cream, and some much needed vitamin D.

I don't know if I ever mentioned that my husband surprised me with a business pass to the Casual Blogger Conference. I've been anticipating the gathering for over a month now, and it finally came about on Friday. Does anyone else stress over what to wear to big events like I do? It's not like I stress over what to wear to work or church, mainly special occasions. I've often wondered if changing for the 3rd or 4th time before making a decision makes me vain or superficial. I like to think I just enjoy fashion and take pride in my appearance. After all, most of my clothing is thrifted. I had to laugh at the fact that this event would be attended predominantly by women. Isn't it true that we generally do get ready for other women? Weird. This is what I wore.

  Top: Forever 21
Black Skinny Jeans: F21
Sandals: Rocket Dog
Necklace: Skinny black scarf I tied to a chain
Earings: Vintage {belonged to my grandma}

  I was kind of nervous to attend  by myself, but quickly felt at home as I met up with some of my blogging friends Serene, and Linda

 Here I am with one of my favorite bloggers and a super nice gal, Becca of Blue Cricket Design.
I also met one of my most favorite girls I have come in touch with through blogging. She is the sweetest mama and has been so genuinely kind to me in our interactions. I only wish I would have snapped a picture. :(  She summed up my feelings about the conference perfectly.

 Saturday was my Travy's birthday. Yep. I call him Travy. If you don't like cheese, please skip the following paragraph. I have to be just a little sappy in honor of his day. Trav, I am so thankful that you are tough enough to work hard and keep me in line, but you're sweet and sensitive enough to treat me like a gem and gently rear our little boy. I'm grateful you're confident and intelligent enough to teach me new things, but humble enough to say you're sorry. I have always thought you were handsome, but I find it even more attractive that you still don't really realize it. I've always thought you were a perfect balance. I've mentioned that Trav can be a birthday Grinch, so I wanted to make his day extra special. I surprised him with a Red Velvet cake I baked from scratch complete with made from scratch Butter cream frosting. More on that later.
We spent Memorial Day in the sun taking a dip, despite some semi-overcast Utah weather. Luckily, the in-laws warm their pool. Baby E experienced aquatic recreational bliss for the very first time. He was very serious at first, and wasn't sure about the new territory, but it didn't take long for him to warm up.
Trav calls me the sunscreen police. I'm not offended. I feel good about my position on the UYSPD. (use your sunscreen police department) I do feel bad for E when he has to undergo the sunscreen routine. Maybe when he's 18 I'll let him swim without a shirt.

It was a much needed weekend full of quality family time. I finished off Monday night with a nice jog, (I had to do something about the steak fries and cake) and a mayonnaise hair mask. And of course, a little blogging. How was your weekend?

It was so lovely to meet you too! You looked adorable at the conference, and if it makes any difference, I tried on every single outfit I packed for the entire trip at least twice. I remember thinking, "why am I so concerned?!"

Happy birthday, Trav! I didn't even know it was his birthdee. Aus and I are so jealous of the swimming. We talked about going all weekend, and then when Monday came we just couldn't pay money to swim with the clouds.

I am the total sunscreen police - but with red hair and fair skin it comes with the territory! When I lived in UT, we'd go to Bear Lake often and I made my kids wear swim shirts...

OK, I saw you at the conference, but I don't think we actually met, did we? I watched you from afar, totally intimidated by your cuteness.

And now I am kicking myself!
