It's a Hard Day's Work

My boys needed haircuts. Sometimes being a stylist can be a blessing and sometimes it can be a curse. I'm grateful that my skills allow me to provide service to others, but I'm gonna be honest, sometimes after a long day I just don't want to use my "skills" to cut my husband's shaggy mop. It's just the wrong setting. I mean, I should be cuddled up with him watching our favorite show, not standing behind him with sharp instruments. Having said that, it's a big money saver, and I guess this way I get to call the shots when it comes to his hairstyle.

When I was working in a salon I used to have wives come in with their husbands and literally stand behind me making sure I cut it the way they wanted. I always thought it was pretty overbearing.
Here is his saucy little self after the stellar cut.

Next my baby needed a trim. I debated over whether there is something morally wrong with cutting your 7 month old's baby locks. It seems like I always see 1 or 2 year old baby boys with hair over their ears and down their neck. Is it because trimming their hair so young is taboo? After debating it for a short while I decided that there's nothing wrong with a little clean up if I have the ability to do so. Also, I think the hair over his ears was starting to bother him.
Here's my studly man after a little trim.
"Yeah, I know I'm a stud muffin."
Lastly, our poor Mighty: I was beginning to feel guilty of animal cruelty based on the length of his coat. He could barely even navigate his way around. Beyond using my skills to benefit the members of my family, I have also taken on the role of groomer. I'm not sure if I like the idea or not, but regardless, grooming is expensive! These days it seems like convenience takes a back seat to conservation. I use dog designated clippers and I start by clipping the fur on his body pretty short. I don't pay much attention to the way the breed is supposed to be cut, I just do it the way I want it. It's the ears that are tough. He hates it when I go anywhere near his ears, and it's tough to get them short.

This is the very best picture I could get of the after. Mighty also hates getting his picture taken. He's not photogenic.

Now I just need to find time to color my hair. It's a tough job keeping these boys lookin handsome!

Josh didn't get his first haircut until he was 18 months old. It was because I was afraid that I would cut his scalp and I didn't want to shell out the money to have a salon do it. So I just waited until you could practically pull it into a ponytail. And then we buzzed it.

In fact, that's pretty much how we do his hair still. :)

Wow, great job on all of them! They look great and it's worth it in the end. But I can understand. Coming home and having to do more of the same you've been doing all day can be tough!

They look good!! Yes it is an old wives tell that if you cut their hair before they are two they will be wild. It has proven to be true with my boys, but I think it is more because they are like their dad!! I agree with wives being overbearing, I let Aaron know if I dont like it but his hair grows unhumanly fast, so no big deal. You did a good job!!

I'm not even a stylist, and I have to cut my man's hair too! And he always looks in the mirror after I'm done, to check that I've done a good enough job...

It's difficult being so talented, right? ;)

I like your style. And you make your husband look great. I did end up getting my kids hair cut by a sweet lady in my ward who is a stylist. she's economical and offered for me to shadow her at the next hair cut.

I am astounded your dog let you cut his/her hair. You are good.

I found you as you found me through mmb.

Have a nice weekend.
